An Award You Say?

Ms Donna Shae at Lovin' All Things Fab gave me an award earlier in the week and I'm excited about that! I appreciate it and actually, I appreciate everyone that stops by my blog and leaves comments or are just passing through.

The are rules...So I have to:

1.) Thank the person giving you the award.
2.) Tell 7 things about yourself.
3.) Award seven recently discovered new bloggers.
4.) Contact the bloggers and let them know they have received an award.

Seven things about me? Prepare for a snooze-fest
  1. Um...Sometimes I really don't understand what goes on in my head. For example, last year I picked out paint for my room that can only be described as hot coral and now I'm a little scared to actually paint...but I'm sure I picked it for a reason so I shall do it anyway.
  2. I REALLY want to try fried pickles.
  3. I have a habit of starting things and not finishing most days
  4. I'm 100% against homework and projects. REVOLT!
  5. I want to be a translator...maybe not full time, but it is something I really enjoy doing. Its just tough to break into.
  6. I'm trying to start a garden in the backyard. I'm thinking beets, grapes, strawberries, cucumber, tomatoes, peppers...Last year I grew three tomatoes pretty good considering I kill everything =/
  7. I'm a blog creeper. I'm the person who is most likely to read and not comment (even if i possibly have something to say!) but I'm like that in person...unless we're extra close, I'm most likely to watch everyone and creep in the corner. I do talk....but I have so much fun watching people interact that I tend to just sit back. Weird~
Okay! So now I have to pass this off to some cool bloggers. So, I'm giving it to:
MissTaina07
Princess Feef
meek~n~mild
 871Sher
Adventures in Makeup
Makeup By Imani
Makeup is My Medicine
A Sick Obsession

Yay! And thanks again (^_^)

Review: Makeup is Art

I was very excited when I saw this book available for pre-order on Amazon. I wasn’t really in the market for a book that covers the basic everyday looks and tips and based on the four little pictures on the Amazon page, it seemed like that wouldn’t be a problem with this book.

I am happy to report that Makeup is Art: Professional Techniques for Creating Original Looks by Jana Ririnui & Lan Nguyen lives up to its name.

While the book does give a few of the basic tips like skin care, face shapes, brow grooming, product types, etc, this is not where the book really shines. That’s not to say the information isn’t good, because it is, but when I read the book, it was obvious that wasn’t what the authors were going for. In my opinion, this isn’t a book for the “beginner” for information. Yes, it does show you how to do a smoky eye….but this was the first time I read about doing a Greasepaint (glossy) smoky eye in a book. There is also a section on eyelashes, but the eyelashes shown aren’t you’re everyday friendly kind. Instead, they have feathers or are rainbow. I also saw one that mildly resembled black paperclips.

It’s really hard for me to not just run through every single section of the book because I enjoyed them all. The Period Looks, Conceptual, Underwater sections were all very nice to go through. Many of the looks done in the book are paired up with step by step instructions on how to do them.

The latter half of the book is really helpful in that it talks more about collaborations, fashion shows, places to find makeup and tools, as well as having a Q&A section.

Even if you’re not trying to read everything the book has to offer, it was worth its price just for the pictures. Actually, I wouldn’t mind if it were just a picture book because this is where the book really shines and lives up to its name. This would be a great book to simply flip through for some inspiration. I would definitely classify it as more of an art book than one for instruction or makeovers.

So..That’s my opinion. If you’re looking for something for everyday, a lot of instruction, makeovers, or anything similar then this book isn’t for you. As I was looking for something a step up from that, I am completely happy with my purchase.

My Return!

I went to visit my friends in Albany over the weekend and had so much fun! Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of any looks I did besides these two (ignore Ray...he's always there lol).

On my eyes was just urban decay sin with the real color from my inglot palette and MAC Ricepaper for a highlight. Don't remember anything else.

By the way, Im also flogging this from my phone! That information isn't important but I really like having the option!

I don't know why the pictures look that way though.

When One Link in the Chain is Missing, It Does Not Go Unnoticed.

We are transient beings. The things that surround us, our situations, our emotions...these are all fleeting, always coming into and out of existence after varying lengths of time.So when you're upset, take solace in knowing that it may seem like forever, but its never permanent...and when you're happy treasure it because that too can change. And never underestimate the effect we have on each other, because sometimes all it takes is one simple action shift the scale one way or another.

A freshman at my college committed suicide on campus yesterday. Even though I didn't know her or am no longer on campus, it still affected me and my mood today. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.

Sadly, it is not until times like this that we remember we are part of a greater community or make it known that we are always here for each other.

Just felt like sharing some current news. =/

Foundations and Books

I've been somewhat on the hunt for another foundation. I love Graftobian...but I prefer a liquid for most occasions.

So I picked up the Maybelline FIT ME foundation.

Mix for perfect shade! (for me anyway)
I didn't have a problem with the wear or even the formula which made me happy. However, I did have an issue with the color that mixing didn't end up resolving for me. The mixed color seemed like a match, but it wasn't as close in undertone as others that I've already tried. Long story short, my search continues.

Bought myself a book for my birthday (22 on the 27th) since I haven't really wanted anything makeup or life related. (The above isn't really an immediate want or need since I still have something I can use...kind of just passing time)

The book is called Makeup Is Art by Jana Ririnui & Lan Nguyen.

I haven't read it yet, but flipping through it, it looks pretty promising. The pictures are gorgeous and visuals catch my attention quickly.

Anyhow. That's all for this update.
